W. Stan Hardesty, DDS - President (North Carolina)
Dr. Hardesty is a founding member and incorporator of the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies, Inc. Dr. Hardesty graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1993 and subsequently began practicing general dentistry in his hometown of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1994 where he currently practices comprehensive general dentistry. Dr. Hardesty was appointed as an adjunct clinical assistant professor in Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry and taught on a part time basis in the comprehensive care clinics from 1996 until 2006. In 2004, Dr. Hardesty was elected to the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners where he served as Chairman of Examinations from 2005-2006, as Secretary-Treasurer for 2006-2007 and as President for 2007-2008. Dr. Hardesty currently serves as a Commissioner for the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), as a member of the Academy of General Dentistry’s Dental Practice Council, as a member of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee for the American Association of Dental Boards, as Parliamentarian for Region 19 of the Academy of General Dentistry and as a member of the Wake Technical Community College Dental Hygiene Advisory Board. He has served numerous positions in organized dentistry as a member of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Caring Dental Professionals, the Raleigh/Wake County Dental Foundation and the UNC Dental Alumni Association, as President for the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry, as a Peer Review Mediator for the Fourth District of the North Carolina Dental Society and as President of the Raleigh/Wake County Dental Society from 2002-2003. Dr. Hardesty is a former member of the Dental Assisting Advisory Board at Wake Technical Community College and a former member of the Board of Directors for Artspace. Dr. Hardesty was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2001 and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists in 2007. Dr. Hardesty, his wife, Julie, and their two children are members of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Robert L. Smith, DDS - Vice-President (Mississippi)
Robert L. Smith, Jr., D.D.S. was appointed to the Board from Mississippi's second dental district on July 1, 2005 for a six-year term ending June 30, 2011. Born on January 25, 1953, Dr. Smith received his dental degree from the University of Tennessee in 1981. After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Smith began his private practice in Tupelo, Mississippi and subsequently moved to Hernando, Mississippi where he has been in private practice since 1982. Dr. Smith's professional memberships include the American Association of Dental Examiners, Southern Conference of Dental Deans and Examiners, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Mississippi Dental Association, Mississippi Academy of General Dentistry, Pierre Fauchard Academy, Tri-Lakes Dental Study Club, and an associate membership in the Mississippi Dental Society.
Thomas T. Willis, DMD - Secretary (Alabama)
Dr. Thomas T Willis is a 1977 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. After a U S Army General Practice Residency and five years active duty he began his practice in Decatur in 1982. He has achieved both the Fellowship and Mastership level in the Academy of General Dentistry. He is a silver member of the Alabama Dental Association and has served as President of the Eighth District Dental Society of ALDA. He was elected to a five year term on the Alabama Board of Dental Examiners in 2007. Other professional organizations include membership in the American Association of Dental Boards, Southern Dean and Dental Examiners, Huntsville Madison County Dental Society, Wilson-Chenault Dental Study Club and a charter member of the Practicing Dentist of Alabama and currently serves as vice president. He served on the CITA Board of Directors from 2008-2011. He is a chief examiner for CITA. He is an Eagle Scout and has been awarded the District Award of Merit, Cross and Flame Award from the United Methodist Church and the Silver Beaver for his volunteering to the Boy Scouts of America.
Conrad (Chip) McVea, III, DDS MAGD - Treasurer (Louisiana)
Dr. Chip McVea is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and a 1987 graduate of the LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduation, he joined his father in practice and created the McVea Dental Center in Franklinton, Louisiana. Dr. McVea has always strived to stay on dentistry’s cutting edge in continuing education and was awarded his Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2001 and his Mastership from the Academy in 2008. He is also extensively involved in the field of forensic dentistry having served as the Deputy Coroner of Washington Parish Louisiana for over ten years and he currently serves on the Region VI DMORT team which mobilizes in times of national disasters. In 2007 Dr. McVea joined his dad on the CITA team as a grader and has participated in other capacities such as captain, calibrator, and chief of exam. He now serves as Co-Chairman of the Examination Committee and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry by Governor Bobby Jindal as an at-large member in 2009 for a five year term. Chip has been married to his junior high sweetheart for the past 28 years and they have two grown sons, Jacob and Seth.
Delma H. Kinlaw, DDS - Immediate Past President, Director of Exam Development and Analysis (North Carolina)
Dr. Kinlaw is one of the founding members of the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies, Inc. Dr. Kinlaw was raised in Henderson, North Carolina where his father was a practicing dentist for nearly fifty years. Dr. Kinlaw began his studies in dentistry in 1977 at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1981 and subsequently in that year received his license to practice dentistry in North Carolina. He has maintained a practice in general dentistry, with attention to cosmetics, in Cary, North Carolina since 1981. Dr. Kinlaw has been considerably involved in the regulation of the dental profession from both a state and a national level. He served on the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners for six years and presently is employed in a part time capacity to that Board. On the national level, Dr. Kinlaw is a past president of the Coalition of Independent Testing Agencies, past Second Vice President of the American Association of Dental Examiners and also served as a Consultant Examiner for the North East Regional Board. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Dental Examiners. Dr. Kinlaw is one of the founding members of the Dental Public Safety Committee. He is also a Fellow in the Academy of Dentistry International and a Fellow of American College of Dentists. In 2008, Dr. Kinlaw received the Meritorious Achievement Award from the North Carolina Dental Society for his significant achievements in dentistry.
